3 spring additions for Texas basketball ready to shine in 2022-23
Dillon Mitchell, SF
The other five-star recruit in the Longhorns 2022 signing class is the Montverde Academy small forward and the ultra-hyped-up incoming freshman Dillon Mitchell. As the highest-rated signee in the Longhorns 2022 class, there is obviously going to be a lot of hype and anticipation that follows Mitchell onto the Forty Acres for next season.
In fact, Mitchell is already getting the sort of hype that projects him out to be a high lottery pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. And if Mitchell can find his game right away next season, then the Longhorns are going to reap the rewards of having one of the most gifted true freshmen in the entire country.
The 6-foot-7 and 205-pound Mitchell still has some room to grow. And he’s likely going to put on at least another five or 10 pounds before he goes through the NBA Draft process next year.
There aren’t many weaknesses in Mitchell’s game, besides his still-developing outside shot. Mitchell is a very gifted shot creator and facilitator as someone that can essentially play every position between the one and the four. And if that outside shot develops throughout next season, Mitchell is truly going to be one of the most lethal two-way wings/forwards in this draft class.
Mitchell is likely going to be starting at the three or the four for Beard and the Longhorns right away next season. Depending on how small Beard and his staff want to go in the starting unit at the outset of next season, Mitchell is either going to be playing on the wing or in the frontcourt, probably alongside Allen.
