The next opponent in the Women’s College World Series this week is set for head coach Mike White and the unseeded Texas softball program. Texas will face the top-seeded and Big 12 regular season champs Oklahoma Sooners in Game 7 of the Women’s College World Series on June 4.

White and the Longhorns got to the winner’s side of the bracket in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, OK, by handily defeating the red-hot five-seed UCLA Bruins by the final score of 7-2 on June 2. Texas easily took care of business to win their third straight game and send the Bruins one game closer to elimination in OKC.

That was the biggest win for the Longhorns in the history of this softball program in the Women’s College World Series.

Meanwhile, the Sooners got to this point by defeating the nine-seed Northwestern Wildcats in dominant fashion later in the afternoon of June 2. Oklahoma downed Northwestern by the final score of 13-2 in just five innings.

Mike White and Texas softball get an extremely tough test next up in the WCWS in No. 1 OU

Oklahoma definitely had the most convincing win of any of the first four games to start off the WCWS in OKC this week.

This meeting between Texas and Oklahoma in this de facto Red River Rivalry game in OKC will be the fourth for these two teams so far this season. Oklahoma beat Texas twice in the prior three meetings this season between these two teams.

But considering the fact that the Sooners have just two total losses on the season so far, that is actually can inspire a good bit of confidence for the Longhorns. Texas and the Oklahoma State Cowgirls (who are also in OKC in the WCWS) are the only two teams to beat Oklahoma so far this season.

Texas will definitely need to see the best they can get out of the All-American senior pitcher Hailey Dolcini. She was brilliant in a complete-game effort, while allowing just two earned runs, in the five-run win over the Bruins on June 2. But she’ll have to continue to elevate her game to give the Longhorns a chance against the Sooners this weekend.

Texas and Oklahoma will face each other in Game 7 of the WCWS on June 4, with the first pitch time set for 2 p.m. CT. The winner of this game will have one more game on the winner’s side of Bracket 1. A Texas win would more than likely mean a rematch with Oklahoma one more time before making it out of this side of the bracket. Meanwhile, the loser of Game 7 will face the winner of UCLA-Northwestern on June 5.
