The lone offensive player we’ve mentioned on this list for the Longhorns is a big one for the Texas receiving corps. The former Georgia Bulldogs sophomore wide receiver transfer and two-time National Champion AD Mitchell has come on strong in spring practice in the last three weeks.

After getting off to an up-and-down start to spring practice in the first week of drills as a Longhorn, Mitchell started to find his way up the figurative spring depth chart at boundary receiver.

It didn’t take long for Mitchell to start creeping up on redshirt sophomore wide receiver Casey Cain for the starting reps at boundary receiver this spring. By the second full week of spring practice, Mitchell was already making a lot of noise thanks to an improving connection with the Texas quarterbacks in passing drills.

Mitchell has looked good as a deep ball threat in team drills and scrimmage settings this spring. He’s also showing the ability to get those contested 50/50 balls along with turning on the burners to pick up yards after the catch.

A good sign of how much Mitchell has settled into the starting role at boundary receiver is that he assertively maintains the first-team spot ahead of Cain, despite the third-year wideout having some really impressive showings in the last couple of weeks.

Mitchell is going to be one of the top three or four wideouts for the Longhorns this fall. He has solidified the top group of wideouts in spring ball alongside junior Xavier Worthy and redshirt senior Jordan Whittington as redshirt junior Isaiah Neyor continues to rehab his way back from a season-ending ACL injury.
