AD Mitchell will become the top target for Quinn Ewers in the passing game

One of the most impressive wide receivers for the Longhorns in the spring game this weekend was the former Georgia Bulldogs sophomore and reigning National Champion Mitchell. In fact, I wouldn’t hesitate to say that Mitchell was the best Texas wideout in the spring game on April 15.

Mitchell finished up the spring game leading the way for the Texas wideouts with a team-high six catches for 58 yards and one receiving touchdown. That touchdown catch was one of the best plays of the entire day of the spring game for Texas, which was an unbelievable one-handed snag from Mitchell.

That play Mitchell made on the contested ball from redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers is something that could completely change the look of this passing game this fall. The combination of Mitchell and redshirt junior wide receiver Isaiah Neyor debuting for Texas this coming season will be a huge difference-maker for Sark. He’ll now have the necessary personnel to attack the boundary while opening up space for other playmakers such as Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington to operate with room to run after the catch.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if any one of the top three or four Texas wideouts this fall is the leader in terms of production in the receiving game. We know that Ewers likes bigger targets given his high release in his throwing motion (i.e. JT Sanders, Mitchell, Neyor).

That would give the edge to guys like Mitchell and Neyor to get the most targets given the natural connection with Ewers in the passing game.
