Daniel Calhoun, OT

Before each game at DKR for the Longhorns, I always do a piece breaking down the biggest visitors of the weekend/week for Sark and Co. And one of the biggest visitors for the spring game this weekend for the Longhorns was the highly touted four-star Marietta (GA) Walton offensive tackle Daniel Calhoun.

The towering 6-foot-7 and 355-pound Georgia offensive tackle recruit is rated by most of the major recruiting services as one of the top five prospects at his position in the nation in the 2024 class.

And it looks like offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns were able to make a real impression on Calhoun and his camp during the spring game visit this weekend. Calhoun reportedly likes how Flood and the Longhorns staff have captured and developed talent in the last couple of years.

The immediate impact that the former elite five-star offensive tackle recruit and rising sophomore Kelvin Banks Jr. had on this offensive line also caught Calhoun’s attention. Being able to get developed and have a chance to contribute immediately along the offensive line, such as what Banks was able to do as a Freshman All-American for the Longhorns last year, is something that Flood and this staff will use as a selling point for Calhoun to come to Texas.

Calhoun will return to Texas for an official visit during what is building up to be a huge weekend on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns staff, from June 23-25.

Gekyle Baker, WR

I didn’t originally anticipate that the talented four-star Brownsboro (TX) wide receiver Gekyle Baker was going to be on campus for the spring game this weekend. Baker was one of the surprise visitors that showed up on the 40 for the spring game, which was a pleasant sighting for new WR coach Chris Jackson and this staff.

Baker is one of the top in-state wide receiver targets in the 2024 class for Sark, Jackson, and the Longhorns. He made his second visit of the 2023 offseason for the spring game, and the first since the Junior Day weekend on Jan. 21, 2023.

After the spring game on April 15, Baker tweeted that he “had a great time in Austin” this weekend.

He also reportedly said that “the game was great and the offense looked on-pace and played well”. Baker liked what he saw from the skill trio of junior wide receivers Xavier Worthy and AD Mitchell and sophomore running back Jaydon Blue.
