Texas Football: Predicting each remaining July commitment for Longhorns
Corian Gipson, DB
Decision date: July 22
The highest-rated priority target on this list that has a good shot to end up in the Longhorns 2024 class soon is the highly touted four-star Lancaster (TX) defensive back Corian Gipson. The 6-foot and 170-pound South Dallas safety has a July 22 decision date, where he’ll decide between Texas and the Clemson Tigers.
The momentum swings in this recruitment were abundant this summer between Texas and Clemson. Head coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers appeared to be the favorite to land Gipson during the spring and early summer.
Gipson was on commitment watch for Clemson for many of the major recruiting services when he officially visited the Tigers on the weekend of June 9. But when Gipson made it out of his Clemson official visit uncommitted, that was great news for Texas.
Texas snagged the momentum in this recruitment when Gipson had a successful official visit to Austin a few weekends ago (specifically from June 23-25).
There was some thinking out there that Texas could land Gipson’s pledge during his official visit to Austin a few weeks back. And now that we’re a few weeks removed from the Texas official visit, Clemson has more confidence in its chances to land Gipson’s commitment on July 22.
We’re still pegging Texas as the favorite to land Gipson’s commitment in a couple of weeks, but the margins are closer than they appeared two weeks ago.
