Wide receiver is the position group that has received the most praise, hands down, for the Longhorns early in training camp. Mitchell and Cook, in particular, have received the most praise for their performance in fall practice in the last week.

Mitchell was one of the players Sark specifically mentioned among the standouts catching his attention early in fall camp during his post-practice press conference on Aug. 7.

That was not the first time Mitchell received praise from his coaches and/or the media early in training camp. We wrote on the site a couple of days ago that Mitchell looked like a “complete receiver” during the first week of fall practice.

Mitchell was commended for his well-rounded skill set, particularly his “situational intelligence”, after the first week of camp.

Moreover, IT’s practice report from Aug. 9 called out Mitchell as someone that is “creating explosive plays” in practice. Mitchell is reportedly “exceptional at finding room to operate”.

There is a lot of buzz in the early stages of training camp that Mitchell could be Texas’ leading receiver this fall. Given Mitchell’s ability to make things happen in space after the catch, stretch the field, and pull down those tough contested 50/50 balls on the boundary, he has the making of a wideout that Quinn Ewers’ top target this fall.
