The Texas Longhorns’ 38-3 drubbing at the hands of Notre Dame didn’t provide us many positives. That should change today.

When the Texas Longhorns take the field today versus Rice for the home opener, expect a fired up and motivated Longhorn squad. After last week’s embarrassing loss to Notre Dame, Texas should play inspired football. I’m guessing it was an unpleasant week of practice and the players will be ready to hit someone, hard.

The Owls will not be a pushover, but there is enough talent on this Texas roster that fans should not doubt the outcome. New offensive coordinator Jay Norvell hasn’t had much time to work with the offense so expect to see pretty much the same offensive system we saw at Notre Dame. Except today the results should be different. Much different.

Last week we saw a young team get handled by an experienced opponent. Today I expect several players to put the team on their shoulders and carry Texas past Rice in convincing fashion. Here are the five Longhorns who should have an impact on today’s game.
