Longhorn Network’s “Super Saturday” was a mixed bag for Texas Sports.
On the first “Super Saturday” of 2017, the Texas Sports teams playing on dirt were jubilant, while the teams playing on the hardwood were heart-broken.
– Texas Baseball swept a doubleheader over Rice to give David Pierce the first two wins of his Texas Baseball managing career.
Texas is now 2-1 on the season after losing to Rice on Friday. The four-game series wraps up Sunday afternoon in Austin.
– Texas Softball also won two games on Saturday, beating Indiana and Louisiana Tech to cap the Texas Invitational.
Included was Texas rallying from a 6-0 deficit against Indiana to win 13-7. Then, Texas beat La. Tech 9-2.
After the first two tournaments of the season, Texas Softball has a 7-3 record. The Horns lost twice to Minnesota in the Texas Classic last weekend, then lost against South Carolina in this weekend’s Texas Invitational.
– Texas Men’s Basketball dropped a heartbreaker, 64-61, against Kansas State at the Erwin Center. K-State scored a tip-in with less than two seconds left to seal the win.
Texas has played more close games than anyone else in a major college basketball division. But, the young Longhorns have lost two-thirds of those games.
– Texas Women’s Basketball lost 74-73 against Oklahoma in Norman. The only major “Super Saturday” game taking place away from Austin ended Texas’ 19-game winning streak.
The Lady Longhorns have to re-focus before returning to the Erwin Center on Monday. Texas plays Baylor in a rematch for first place in the Big 12.
