Texas Longhorns fans have officially had enough of Stanford.

Stanford has left a sour taste in the mouths of Longhorns fans one too many times the past three months. And, they’re not even in the same conference.

But, because the Longhorns and Cardinal are at the same athletic level, their encounters stretch across the sports world. And, Stanford has gotten the upper hand lately.

Perhaps this frustration is all rooted in Mack Brown not getting Andrew Luck to Texas. Instead, Luck left West Houston for California after high school. Vince Young … Colt McCoy … Andrew Luck. Oh, what could have been. Speaking of which…

NCAA Tournament – March 2017

The Texas Women’s Basketball team fell to Stanford 77-66 on Friday night, ending the Horns’ dream of playing in the Final Four in Dallas.

Texas held a seven-point lead at halftime of their Sweet 16 matchup. But, Stanford converted a six-point play on the first possession of the second half. From there, it was inevitable Stanford would ride that momentum to victory.

Stanford also beat Texas in the first game of the regular season. Well, for the Longhorns. Stanford eased into the season with a warm-up victory over Cal Poly before Texas visited Palo Alto.

Now, the Lady Longhorns need to remember the sight of that tree dancing on the court after Friday’s game to fuel their offseason workouts.

College Baseball – March 2017

At the beginning of March, Texas Baseball traveled to Palo Alto for a four-game series against Stanford. The first game on a Thursday night went great – a 4-0 shutout.

But, Texas promptly lost three winnable games in 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. The Longhorns blew late leads in the middle games of the series, then lost another winnable game in the last game.

Fortunately, that was not the end of the season for Longhorns Baseball. The Horns used the bitter taste of the California trip to fuel a 6-game winning streak when the offense came alive.

Volleyball NCAA Title Game – December 2016

Unfortunately, Stanford ended Texas Women’s Volleyball’s season, just like the Women’s Basketball team.

And in the process, the Cardinal denied Texas the Volleyball National Title. This one had bigger stakes for the Longhorns, who also lost in the National Title game in 2015 against Nebraska.

In December, Stanford won their seventh National Title in women’s volleyball, while Texas remained stuck on two titles – 1988 and 2012.

The Longhorns have advanced to the Final Four the last five years and eight out of the last nine years. But, they have just one National Title during the stretch.

Perhaps the Horns and Cardinal can find something in common, though. Texas has lost three National Title games over the past seven years, while Stanford lost three straight National Title games right before Texas started their amazing run.

Next: Dream Non-Conference Texas Football Games

Overall, though, If the Longhorns and Cardinal meet again in a high-stakes sporting event, the Horns will be extra motivated to erase these recent encounters. No one in burnt orange wants to see that tree dance again. Ever.
