After playing their worst game of the season on Tuesday night, Texas Baseball responded with a doubleheader sweep on Friday.

Texas Baseball went on the road to Stillwater and took two games against Oklahoma State.

The Horns won Game 1 by the score of 5-4, then shut out the Cowboys 7-0 in Game 2.

It was a big Friday for the Texas hitters, who responded after nearly being shut out on Tuesday. In the two games against OSU, Texas totaled four home runs, scored 12 total runs, and recorded 19 total hits.

Texas also got dominant starting pitching from Morgan Cooper in Game 2. Mo Coop threw seven shutout innings on his way to his sixth win of the season.

Now, Texas will look for the sweep on Saturday when Texas and Ok. State try to wrap up the series battling through weather issues.

Overall, this is a big series for the Horns trying to climb the Big 12 conference standings. With the two wins on Friday, Texas Baseball is now 9-8 in the conference, right behind West Virginia and Texas Tech.

Game 1: Texas Pulls Comeback

Texas fell in an early 2-0 hole on Friday afternoon. But, Zane Gurwitz got the Home Run Party started with a solo shot in the third inning.

Then, Bret Boswell started a monster day at the plate with an RBI to tie the game at 2-2.

Kacy Clemens broke the tie in the eighth with a clutch single. Then, Boswell grabbed another RBI and Michael McCann made it 5-2.

But, OSU struck for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to inch closer at 5-4.

Texas fans have watched too many late-inning leads disappear on the road this season. And, it looked like Ok. State was going to at least tie the game.

After scoring two runs, the Cowboys had runners on second and third with one out. But, Ridgeway registered a strikeout, then gave up a walk to load the bases, and recorded a final strikeout to win the game.

It was Ridgeway’s 10th save of the season, ensuring that starter Nolan Kingham picked up his seventh win of the season.  [ Full Box Score ]

Game 2: Texas Baseball Goes Long Ball

There was no such drama in Game 2 of the doubleheader against Oklahoma State.

Bret Boswell picked up where he left off with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning.

Boswell then smashed a three-run home run in the top of the third to make it 5-0 just like that.

To complete the Home Run Party, Patrick Mathis added a solo shot in the top of the seventh. And, Texas tacked on a final run in the ninth to make it 7-0 for the Horns.

That was more than enough run support for Morgan Cooper, who had another outstanding line for Texas Baseball.

  • 7 IP
  • 2 Hits allowed
  • 1 Walk
  • 11 Ks
  • 106 Pitches

Because Cooper minimized his walk total, he was able to pitch seven innings on Friday. Recently, he’s only been pitching five or six innings because of his pitch count. [ Full Box Score ]

Now, Texas will look for their tenth Big 12 conference win on Saturday. The Horns need as many conference wins as they can get to enhance their NCAA Tournament resume.
