We’re officially less than 80 days away from the first game of the 2018 campaign for Texas football and the excitement is definitely building.

Texas football is kicking summer workouts into gear now to make some strides during the longer months of the off-season. Effective summer workouts could lead into a fall camp that will have the Longhorns well-prepared for the tough season opener on tap with a road matchup against the Maryland Terrapins.

A lot is at stake for the horns this season with all the hype surrounding a potential run to the Big 12 Championship Game. ESPN’s Football Power Index actually gives Texas the second best odds to win the Big 12 this year. That falls in behind only the Oklahoma Sooners, who have won three straight conference titles.

Before the Horns can even think about making a run to the Big 12 Championship Game, there’s some steps that need to be taken to improve on both sides of the ball. While the Texas defense was very solid last season, the offense left a lot to be desired.

But, the Texas defense experienced some big losses from last season’s squad including linebacker Malik Jefferson, safety DeShon Elliott, linebacker Naashon Hughes, defensive tackle Poona Ford, and cornerback Holton Hill. That’s a lot to replace, but Texas head football coach Tom Herman does have the resources to slot in some new talent immediately.

The real key for Texas this year is to find the answer under center and get the offensive line going. Put both of those things into place, and Texas instantly becomes a contender in the Big 12.

Here’s a look at 10 reasons to be excited about the 2018 campaign for the fans of the Texas Longhorns.
