Cole Brevard, DT
Chris Hummer and Zenitz from 247Sports reported on Dec. 14 that Brevard is "expected to transfer to Texas". Multiple other reports since (including Horns247) have confirmed that Brevard has committed and signed to join the Longhorns in the winter portal window today.
Going into this portal cycle, it was a top priority for the Longhorns' coaching staff to add at least a few proven and experienced transfer defensive tackles to bolster the top end of the rotation along the interior defensive line.
Brevard brings invaluable live-game experience and productivity at zero-tech along the defensive line playing in the trenches in the Big Ten for the last few years. He's taken over 500 defensive snaps in his collegiate career at nose tackle, which helps replace all the snaps the Longhorns are losing at zero tech this upcoming offseason with the departures of seniors Bill Norton and Alfred Collins.
Brevard spent two seasons with the Penn State Nittany Lions and three with Purdue before transferring to Texas for the final year of his eligibility in college for 2025.
He started his college journey at Penn State in 2020. Brevard transferred to Purdue ahead of the 2022 season, where he play three seasons and was a multi-year starter along the Boilermakers' defensive line.
Brevard appeared in 38 games in his career at Penn State and Purdue and made 23 starts. He's started all 23 games he's played for Purdue since 2023.
In his career, Brevard has 38 combined tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 30 quarterback pressures, 28 defensive stops, and two fumble recoveries.
Brevard brings the necessary size, strength, and proven ability to play multiple techniques along Texas's defensive front seven in the trenches in the SEC. He's a great addition to help Texas boost the defensive line rotation for the 2025 season.
