Former North Carolina Tar Heels junior transfer defensive tackle Travis Shaw officially entered the portal a little under one month ago (on Dec. 10). His portal recruitment has seen him take all that many visits since he originally announced his intentions to transfer early in the winter window.

The hiring of Bill Belichick at UNC as the football program's next head coach also led some assumptions that Shaw was leaning toward a return to the Tar Heels for the 2025 season and eventually withdrawing his name from the transfer portal.

But the Longhorns have changed that assumption in the past 24 hours, with the news that Shaw took a visit to Texas.

Inside Texas reported on Jan. 4 that Shaw took an official visit to Austin starting on Friday (Jan. 3). He is the second ACC transfer from the portal that the Longhorns have hosted in as many days early this weekend on campus.

The 6-foot-5 and 330-pound defensive tackle from the East Coast has the type of size, proven experience, and talent that the Longhorns want to replacing the outgoing defensive tackles up front for this side of the ball in the SEC.

Shaw, a former five-star recruit from Greensboro, NC, from the 2021 class, has over 500 career defensive snaps under his belt at UNC against P4 competition since 2022.

He played 37 games for the Tar Heels over the past three seasons, registering 55 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, 24 defensive stops, and 7 quarterback pressures.
