Cameron Williams, OT
Junior starting right tackle Cameron Williams suffered a lower-body injury in Texas's first-round College Football Playoff victory over the Clemson Tigers. He missed the quarterfinal Playoff game at the Peach Bowl on New Year's Day against Arizona State.
Redshirt freshman offensive tackle Trevor Goosby made the first start of his collegiate career against Arizona State in the quarterfinal double-overtime win in the Peach Bowl. Goosby has been very steady for the Longhorns, filling in for various injuries at the offensive tackle position for the Longhorns late this season.
Goosby has allowed zero sacks and zero QB hits while taking over 100 pass-blocking snaps since the Thanksgiving week rivalry win in College Station over Texas A&M.
Sarkisian feels optimistic about the outlook of Texas's key injured players going into the national semifinal at the Cotton Bowl against Ohio State this week.
"I think we're going to be healthy and good to go by the time the game rolls around."Steve Sarkisian
Inside Texas reported that Williams took the first-team practice reps at right tackle for the Longhorns in full-pads practice on Sunday (Jan. 5). This is the first time that Williams has consistently taken the first-team practice reps for the Longhorns in full-pads practice in the past couple of weeks since the first round of the College Football Playoff against Clemson in late December.
Williams was reportedly dressed out in his uniform and gear for the Longhorns in pregame warm ups for the Peach Bowl quarterfinal against Arizona State. But he didn't play any snaps.
Between Williams consistently taking the first-team practice reps in team drills in the past few days for the Longhorns, and Sarkisian saying he feels good about him getting healthy this week, it sounds like the junior right tackle is on the right track to make his return on Friday against the Buckeyes.
