Rocco Spindler, IOL
Texas has done a great job of recruiting and developing talent along the offensive line over the past few years. Looking for help in the trenches along the offensive line has not been the Modus Operandi for the Longhorns under the current coaching staff.
With the Longhorns losing four out of five starters along the O-Line there was some speculation early this offseason that offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns would look for help along the offensive line in the portal in the winter window. Texas hosted former USC Trojans and Wyoming Cowboys grad transfer interior offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon for a visit a couple of weeks ago.
After Pregnon committed to the Oregon Ducks via the portal over the Longhorns last week, there are a few other options Texas could kick the tires on in the transfer market if they wanted to still add a proven grad transfer along the offensive line for the 2025 season in the SEC.
Former Notre Dame starting right guard Rocco Spindler entered the transfer portal earlier this week after starting 13 games for the national champion-runner Fighting Irish this past season.
There are a handful of relevant connections that could possibly appeal to the Longhorns if they want to kick the tires on pursuing Spindler in the portal.
First, Flood recruited Spindler as a blue-chip prospect in the 2021 class from Clarkston, MI, when he was the offensive line coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama was one of Spindler's top schools before he eventually committed to Notre Dame.
He didn't allow any sacks and only a handful of quarterback pressures in over 400 pass-blocking snaps for Notre Dame in the season that was (per PFF).
Spindler could be a potential immediate plug-and-play one-year player at one of the starting guard spots for the Longhorns offensive line for the 2025 season.
