Within the first week of the winter NCAA Transfer Portal window, Texas football already landed commitments from three transfers over the weekend to fill key positional needs on multiple sides of the ball.
Defensive additions kick off this transfer portal on a high note for Texas football
Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff reeled in portal commitments in the past week from former Utah Utes senior punter Jack Bouwmeester, Purdue Boilermakers senior defensive tackle Cole Brevard, and Arkansas Razorbacks sophomore linebacker Brad Spence.
For the defensive side of the ball, the Longhorns were looking to add immediate-impact transfers at key positions of need, including defensive line, experience at linebacker, and cornerback (possibly also safety). Texas added an important piece to the defensive line with a proven grad transfer with multiple years of starting experience in the Big Ten in Brevard.
Spence also brings physicality and a good amount of experience from live-game defensive snaps from the past two seasons at Arkansas to the linebacker position for the Longhorns.
Texas is still in search of at least two more proven defensive tackle transfers who can provide them with high-caliber snaps along the interior defensive line in the SEC. The Longhorns are also looking for potentially more linebacker help from the portal and a talented and proven defensive back who fits PK's secondary scheme.
Here are two available players in the transfer portal on the defensive side of the ball who would be perfect target fits for the Longhorns.
