Tacario Davis, CB (Arizona)
There's a strong possibility that the Longhorns could take a starting-caliber cornerback with good length and multiple years of starting experience from another P4 school in the winter portal window.
Former Arizona Wildcats 6-foot-4 starting cornerback Tacario Davis is certainly a good option for the Longhorns regarding his familiarity with Johnny Nansen from their time in Tucson a couple of years ago together. I think Nansen and PK would do a better job of maximizing Davis's talent and scheming in pass coverage in the secondary.
Under Nansen, Davis was the highest-graded cover corner in the Pac-12 in 2023. He registered 15 pass breakups and one interception for the Arizona secondary last season.
It sounds like the Longhorns have at least kicked the tires on the possibility of pursuing Davis in the portal in the winter transfer window. But Texas may have some work to do in this portal recruitment, as the Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M Aggies have been in contact with Davis in the past few days since he entered the portal late last week (per On3).
Texas has some possibilities for the opposite corner position starting on the other side from sophomore Malik Muhammad in 2025. The Longhorns have senior corner Gavin Holmes likely returning to school for a fifth season. Texas could also move junior nickel Jaylon Guilbeau back to cornerback from the star position.
Senior corner Jahdae Barron moved from the star position to field cornerback this past offseason, and it was a fantastic move for the Longhorns' defensive secondary this fall.
