2 studs, 1 dud from Texas's onerous win over Mizzou

Texas claims another Quad 1 win at the Moody Center tonight over SEC foe, No. 22 ranked Mizzou.

Dud: Tre Johnson, G

Freshman guard Tre Johnson had an off night shooting from the field and from beyond the arc against Mizzou tonight. For the first time since the SEC opener, Johnson shot below 40 percent from the field and under 25 percent from beyond the arc.

He finished up with a dozen points, coming largely by way of the free throw line, where he shot 5-of-6 on the night. Johnson also shot 3-of-15 from the field and just 1-of-8 from beyond the arc.

While this wasn't Johnson's best game, he came up with a big shot when it mattered for the Longhorns down the stretch in the second half. Johnson made a big layup with just under a minute remaining in the second half to essentially salt the win away for the Longhorns over Mizzou, giving Texas a 58-51 lead with 58 second left on the board.

"You can affect the game in a number of different ways, and not just scoring. You can be an impactful player with your defense. You can be an impactful player being a willing passer, being a willing screener. Tonight, I thought he trusted his teammates. Tre's about winning, though."

This game will serve as a learning point for Johnson going into another critical stretch of upcoming games in SEC play, including a chance at revenge against the No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies at the Moody Center this coming Saturday.

Defensively, I thought Johnson looked more aware and communicative off-ball than he was against Florida last Saturday. He was quicker to provide help defense tonight on that end of the floor.
