2 studs, 1 dud from Texas's road win vs. NC State
A huge late-game closeout on a great defensive possession late in the second half nabbed Texas basketball its first true road win of the regular season in the ACC/SEC Challenge over the NC State Wolfpack in Raleigh on Dec. 4. Senior big man Kadin Shedrick challenged a drive and layup attempt by NC State guard Jayden Taylor in the paint with under 10 seconds remaining in the game.

This was a big play for Shedrick to help the Longhorns come up with the victory after a big defensive stand late in the second half, winning a game over an NC State team that is just 20 or 30 minutes up the road from where he grew up in Holly Springs, NC.
Texas (7-1, 0-0 SEC) and NC State (5-3, 0-0 ACC) were neck and neck on the scoreboard for most of this game on Wednesday night at the Lenovo Center. There were a dozen lead changes and nine times that the game was tied between the Longhorns and Wolfpack.
Head coach Rodney Terry and the Longhorns sealed the win over the Wolfpack after junior guard Chendall Weaver extended Texas's lead to two possessions with a slam dunk in the dying seconds of the second half.
Texas returns home for a huge non-conference matchup against the back-to-back defending National Champion UConn Huskies at the Moody Center on Dec. 8. The Longhorns have a seven-game winning streak on the line entering Sunday's matchup vs. UConn.
Here are two studs and one dud after Texas's close four-point win on the road over NC State in the SEC/ACC Challenge on Dec. 4.
Stud: Tre Johnson, G
Freshman guard Tre Johnson came up big for the Longhorns on the offensive end of the floor when his team needed it the most down the stretch in the second half. Johnson scored nine of his game-high 18 points on three clutch three-point field goals from deep in the game's final 10 minutes.
Two of Johnson three-point makes in the second half came within the game's final five minutes, which helped put and keep the Longhorns ahead on the scoreboard over NC State down the stretch.
Johnson certainly wasn't perfect in this game offensively. He'll need to improve the foul and turnover situation. Johnson nearly fouled out in this game, running up four personal fouls a decent way into the second half.
He came up big when he needed to on both ends of the floor. Johnson was the guard defending NC State's Taylor on the Wolfpack's final offensive possession of the game where the senior guard missed the field-goal attempt at the rim against the challenging Shedrick in the paint.
With his 18 points in this game, Johnson is the first SEC true freshman to score over 16 points in the first eight games of his collegiate career.
