Derion Gullette, OLB

Per On3's Hayes Fawcett, redshirt freshman Texas edge rusher/outside linebacker Derion Gullette intends to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Gullette was the first Texas player who had announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal on the first day of the winter window on Monday morning.

Gullette played five games for the Longhorns on defense and special teams during the 2024 regular season. The last game he played in a Texas uniform this season was with the special teams unit in Week 11 of SEC play in the Longhorns' 49-17 win over the Florida Gators at DKR.

Most of the games Gullette saw action in this season for the Longhorns came with the special teams kickoff coverage unit. He took a handful of snaps over four games during the regular season with the kickoff coverage team (per PFF).

Gullette saw the field for defensive snaps in three games this season, all coming in garbage time during non-conference play against Colorado State, UTSA, and UL-Monroe. He registered two combined tackles and two defensive stops over 11 defensive snaps for the Longhorns in 2024.

Due to a season-ending knee injury, the 6-foot-3 and 235-pound Gullette didn't play his senior season at Teague High School in Teague, TX. Gullette played the first three seasons of his high school football career at Marlin (TX) High.

He was part of a 2023 signing class for the Longhorns that was Sarkisian's first top-three-ranked recruiting class in the nation in the 247Sports Composite as Texas's head coach. Gullette ranked as the No. 121 prospect nationally in the 2023 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 18 edge rusher, and No. 22 from Texas.

Gullette has three years of eligibility remaining.
