Pre-game.

Today has been a pretty quiet day for college football. A couple of scares but most teams have won the games they are suppose to. Pitt with the huge upset over Virginia Tech but they dominated that game from the beginning. Florida seems to have the game at hand against Tennessee so my picks seem to be working out so far. Can’t say that much about the Bears-Packers pick (Ugh)

Hugh Freeze basically said he doesn’t know if he can beat Texas. Ouch. Texas wins the coin toss and defers.

1st Quarter

Kickoff goes into the endzone and is downed. First play is a run up the middle for 6 yard gain then a quick snap bubble screen but is blown up by Phillips. Then on 3rd down a QB draw for about 12. Then the next play, Bo wallace gets blown up. Then they had a freshmen come in for a wildcat and got 3 yards. Then on 3rd down the flat pass when incomplete and the pressure was huge on Bo Wallace. False start backs it up 5 yards but a 46 yard punt down at the Texas 14.

The first play is a run by Joe Bergeron and it’s a huge run. Probably a gain of 12. Another run by Bergeron but that gets 3 yards. Longhorns come out in the pistol, another run by Bergeron but goes no where. 3rd and 6. Then a short pass to Jaxon Shipley goes nowhere. Not a good start. Alex King to punt. Big 49 yard punt where Ole Miss will start on their 20.

The next Ole Miss drive starts with a swing pass for 2 yards. Then Steve Edmond picks the ball off and it goes for a Pick 6!!! Touchdown Texas.

Touchdown Texas!! 25 INT return by Steve Edmond (PAT Good): Texas Leads 7-0

Nick Rose kicks the ball all the way through the endzone. Then a false start for Ole Miss. The first play is a speed sweep to Jeff Scott for a 4 yard gain. Then Bo Wallace was sack for a 6 yard loss. Then on 3rd down the coverage gives Jeffcoat enough time to get to Bo for a 3 yard sack.

Texas starts on at their own 47 yard line. Then Bergeron gets 9 yards, then Espinoza gets a false start but then Malcolm Brown rushes for 25 yards and a first down. Then Malcolm Brown gets 7 yards going to the left. Then Joe Bergeron gets two 2 yard runs for a first down. Then 2 rushing plays that go nowhere then after a false start Ash goes deep but misses. The Longhorns settled for a field goal. Ash could of had it but double clutched and missed the timing. Can’t do that.

Nick Rose kicks it 5 yards deep and Ole Miss takes it out and is down at the 10 yard line. The first play is a pass breakup by Jeffcoat and he came to play. The next play is an out route for 11 yards and a first down. Then another quick pass for 9 yards then a screen for 5 yards. These out routes are killing Texas. But after an offside then Reggie Wilson with the big sack and it’s now 2nd and 17. 3 sacks for Texas. After an incomplete pass, Wallace hits a post pattern for 30 yards. Then Wallace runs for 11 yards and a first down. Then a handoff to their home run hitter Scott with a 14 yard gain. Then a run for no gain on first down and that’s the end of the First quarter.

First Quarter Thoughts: Solid quarter and likely a touchdown here for Ole Miss but a solid start.

2nd Quarter

A speed sweep to Mackey and he gets a 3 yard TD run.

Touchdown Ole Miss: 3 yard run by Mackey (PAT Good). Texas leads 10-7

Kickoff by Ole Miss was 7 yards deep and Texas takes a knee. First down Ash has to get out of the sack and completes the pass for 7 yards and then Malcolm Brown gets 5 yards. Then on first down, Texas takes a timeout. Then a false start again for Texas. Got to cut down on these penalties. 1st and 15 and Ash hands the ball to Marquis Goodwin on a speed sweep and he takes it 69 yards to the house for a TD. PAT good.

Touchdown Texas: 69 yard run by Marquis Goodwin. (PAT Good). Texas leads 17-7.

Kickoff is taken at the 3 yard and takes it to the 23 yard line. Then a run by Bo Wallace for a 10 yard gain but is knocked out. Then Ole Miss runs it in the middle but goes nowhere. Then Ole Miss goes deep and  Moncrief gets into the endzone but the play is being reviewed. The catch was huge and he got way up there to get it. But they say he stepped out. Lucky break for Texas. The next play Mackey breaks a few tackles for a first down. Then the next play Wallace throws a lateral and its a fumble and it goes back to the 21. 2nd and 18.  The next play the screen pass is broken up and before the next play. Ole Miss calls a timeout. Then on 3rd down, Jordan Hicks tackles the Ole Miss by the Horse collar. Penalties are a problem right now. 1st down goes nowhere and 2nd down Texas blitzes and Alex Okafor gets the sack. 3rd and 19 from the 20. Then on 3rd down, Okafor sacks Wallace again for a 2 yard loss. 5 sacks tonight in the first half. Wow. The field goal is good for Ole Miss.

Field goal Ole Miss: 39 yard field goal by Bryson Rose. Texas leads 17-10

Texas takes over at the 19. Ash hands off to Bergeron is a 5 yard gain. Then Ash throws the ball to Mike Davis for about a 10 yard gain. Then on the zone read Ash keeps it and gets 12 yards. Then on first down, a playaction pass to Marquis Goodwin for a huge 47 yard gain and Ash didn’t hestitate but did underthrow it. First down run goes nowhere and the second down play is a playaction pass to DJ Grant for a 3 yard touchdown. PAT good.

Touchdown Texas: 3 yard TD reception by DJ Grant. Texas leads 24-10.

David Ash is 5/6 for 71 yards and a touchdown. Nice.

The kickoff is 7 yards deep and Ole Miss downs it and will start at the 25 yard line. An option play goes through the middle and get 18 yard gain. Then a quick screen for 8 yards but then a 3 yard run up the middle for a first down. Then Wallace looks deep but underthrows the ball and Quandre Diggs intercepts the ball and gets about a 12 yard return. And a personal foul on Ole Miss will put it on the Texas 40.

Ash starts off in the pistol, but Mack Brown has to call a timeout to prevent a delay of game. So first down is a run to the right by Bergeron and he gets 4 yards. Then Ash quick 3 step drop and gets the ball to DJ grant for 4 yards. 3rd and 2. Then the Wildhorn comes out, Bergeron takes the snap and hands off to Shipley who gets about 8 yards. Then Ash completes to Mike Davis for a 5 yard gain. Then Ash flips it to Malcolm Brown for a 6 yard gain. Then a first down run goes for 3 yards. On 2nd down, Ash gets out of the pocket and completes to Mike Davis for about 15 yards. Then Ash hands off to Brown for 3 yards. Nice looking drive, I love this drive. Bergeron with a big 6 yard run and it’s 3rd and 1. On 3rd down, Bergeron gets the ball for a 5 yard gain. 11th play right here on First and goal. Then run its for 2 yards but stopped short. Then on 2nd down they fake the run and they get Roberson in the flat for a touchdown. PAT good.

Touchdown Texas: Ryan Roberson 1 yard TD pass from David Ash. PAT Good. Texas leads 31-10.

The Longhorns squib the kick and we probably will see a run here to end the half. And that’s what they do.

End of the First Half: Texas 31 – Ole Miss 10.

Halftime thoughts: Wow, what a dominating 1st half for the Longhorns. Sure missed tackling is an issue but that’s just nitpicking. This is the Texas team we wanted to see all year long and they are rolling. 5 sacks, Ash being a game manager which only missed just barely Shipley in the endzone. He has had an amazing night and they haven’t even got Daje Johnson or Jonathan Gray involved. Awesome half.

3rd Quarter

Kickoff goes to the Texas 26. Malcolm Brown runs the ball and gets nowhere. Then on 2nd down, Ash swings the ball to Shipley for a 10 yard gain and a first down. Then on first down, another swing pass, this time to Malcolm Brown for 9 yards. 2nd down, then hand it off to Malcolm Brown for a 3 yard gain.

UPSET!! Stanford beats USC 21-14.

David Ash goes deep but underthrows the ball but draws a pass interference. Then another speed sweep by Goodwin for an 11 yard gain. On first down, a statue of liberty play for 15 yards to Malcolm Brown. Ash got knocked on that play. Then on the next play, they hand off to DJ Monroe and again DJ Monroe bounces off a would be tackler and gets into the endzone. PAT Good.

Touchdown Texas! 10 yard run by DJ Monroe (PAT Good). Texas rolling 38-10.

BEVO MADE THE TRIP!!!

Ole Miss brings out the kickoff but they only get to the 16 yard line. A quick pass to the tight end for about 8 yards. On 2nd down then run the ball and get nowhere. Jordan Hicks is out for the game. On third down, Bo Wallace hits Moncrief on the streak and he takes it all the way to the endzone for a huge 75 TD pass. They missed a tackle on the first try and then the defense couldn’t keep up. The Longhorns fell asleep and got burned.

Touchdown Ole Miss: 75 yard TD pass to Moncrief from Wallace (PAT Good). Texas still leads 38-17.

Daje Johnson takes the ball on the kickoff but gets dropped at the 17 yard line. The first play was a shovel pass, and a loss of 4 yards. 2nd and 14 they go to the screen and Jeremy Hills picks up 9 for a 3rd and 6. They called another screen to Bergeron this time and it was good for 16 yards. Then a 7 yard pass for Daje Johnson to bring up 2nd down and Ash throws it deep, double covered and David Ash fitted it in a tight window for a big play. WOW. 1st and Goal. Malcolm Brown runs for 3 yards. Then David Ash throws to the endzone but the pass falls incomplete. 15 straight passes completed. Come on Ash :). On 3rd down, Malcolm Brown rumbles his way to the endzone for the 5 yard touchdown.

Touchdown Texas! 5 yard run by Malcolm Brown. (PAT Good) Texas up 45-17.

Wow what a game, this is the best game this season.

The kickoff is short of the endzone and the Longhorns are all over it and drop him behind the 10 yard line. A personal foul I think on Santos but I am not sure. On First down, the Rebels run it for a 3 yard gain. Then Wallace completes an out to MonCrief for 4 yards. Then another pass but short of the first down but they QB sneak the ball on 4th down to get the first down. Then Wallace completes the pass for a 15 yard gain. Then on a speed sweep by Jeff Scott and he breaks a few tackles and takes it all the way for a long touchdown. 48 yards. PAT is Good. Poor tackling on that series.

Touchdown Ole Miss: 48 yard run by Jeff Scott. (PAT Good) Texas up 45-24.

Texas takes over at the 19 and they hand it to Brown for 4 yards. Ash then throws it to Shipley for a 23 yard gain. Then Malcolm Brown carries for 6 and 5 yards for a first down. Then a false start puts the Longhorns back 5 yards. Then on 1st down and 15, Texas tries to set up the screen but its not there. Then on 2nd down, Ash goes deep and hits Mike Davis for a 46 yard reception and a Touchdown. Ball again was underthrown but another big throw. PAT Good.

Touchdown Texas! 46 yard pass from Ash to Mike Davis. (PAT Good) Texas up 52-24.

Kickoff goes to the 14 yard line. Ole Miss rushes to the 17. On 2nd down, Bo Wallace throws an incomplete pass and does the same on 3rd down. Ole Miss has to punt and it’s BLOCKED BY KENDALL SANDERS. WOW. Ball is downed in at the Ole Miss 22.

Shipley starts out at QB and throws it to Ash but it’s incomplete. Then a handoff to Daje Johnson that goes for 2 yards. On 3rd down, Ash tries for the endzone but overthrows Mike Davis. Texas tries the field goal and Nick Jordan misses and now is 3 for 7. Nick Jordan is our future so lets hope he gets it figured out.

Ole Miss takes over and Wallace’s first pass is incomplete. Then Wallace swings it out to the running back and he gets 2 yards on the pass. On 3rd down, the pass is PICKED OFF by Quandre Diggs. Second pick of the night. First down Texas.

Ash runs the ball for a 7 yard gain and that’s the end of the 3rd Quarter.

3rd Quarter thoughts: Sloppy tackling on defense but big pick at the end. Ash is hitting receivers and even though they are underthrown, the receivers are making plays. Ash is spectacular. Now lets get some back ups into the game.

4th Quarter

Ash gets it to Malcolm Brown and he gets a 10 yard gain and then Ash hands it to Malcolm Brown and he takes it 12 yards to the endzone. PAT is good.

Touchdown Texas! Malcolm Brown 12 yard run. (PAT Good) Texas up big 59-24.

Ole Miss on the kickoff makes people miss and takes it all the way to the house.

Touchdown Ole Miss: 100 yard kickoff return (PAT Good) Texas still up 59-31.

David Ash is still out there and he is handing off to Malcolm Brown for a 9 yard gain. Bergeron is out for the game. Another run by Malcolm Brown gets 6 or 7 yards and he is automatic. On 1st down, Malcolm Brown gets 2 yards. Then in the Wildhorn, Shipley hands off to Jonathan Gray and gets 3 yards. On 3rd down, Ash throws deep to Goodwin and it’s good for a 65 yard TOUCHDOWN!!

Touchdown Texas! 65 yard reception to Goodwin from Ash. (PAT Good) Texas up big 66-31.

Kickoff comes out to the 27 yard line and Ole Miss runs for a 3 yard gain. Ole Miss is moving the ball downfield but it just seems futile at this point. Their drive results in a turnover on downs.

Texas has a drive here that is just running down the clock and they are just grinding it out with Jeremy Hills and Jonathan Gray. And the drive ends on with two victory formations.

Texas wins 66-31

Final Thoughts: An all-around great win for the Longhorns and what a way to end the Non-conference schedule with a huge road win and the most points since the 2005 Big 12 championship game. Awesome win.
