Texas Longhorns Thoughts
– Final thought on the massive beatdown now having two days to think about it. I have read other publications and what other writers across the nation are saying about the Texas Longhorns. All are very impressed with the offense. Yes, Ole Miss probably has a bad defense, but you score 66 points and have 676 yards of offense on anybody, that is going to get people’s attention. I said last week that the Longhorns needed to make a statement on national TV and they did just that. They are a raw team, but now with Wes Lunt likely out for Oklahoma State, Texas will have a chance to go 5-0 entering the Red River Rivalry.
– I voted the Longhorns #7 in our Hook’em Headlines Top 25 and apparently I ruffled a few feathers:

Now I know John and he does a great job for Fansided Radio, but in no way was I just putting Texas in the top 10 just to put them there. I have seen nothing from Oklahoma to put them in the top 10. South Carolina can’t keep their quarterback healthy so who knows what type of team they will have for the rest of the year. Notre Dame beat a Michigan State team that hasn’t had an offense all year. Texas averaged over 49 points a game and have only allowed 16 points a game. Every team I put in front of Texas I knew for a fact those teams are better than Texas right now. Every other team below Texas can make a case on why they are better but I can make a case why they aren’t. Everything will sort itself out in the season but right now Texas is a top 10 team and even the Coaches poll agrees with that one.
National Football League thoughts
– The Rams win! Yes I am excited about the win for the Rams because this was the first win since November 13th of last year. The Rams did have a big win last year against the Saints but that doesn’t compare to this win. After having our hearts ripped out of us last week and to finally get a win being down 21-6 at one point to the Redskins is huge.
– The Bears and Cowboys both got blown out. It was bad in both games and I couldn’t watch the games after a while. After Week 1 dominance, they got punched in the mouth in Week 2. The Bears and Rams will play each other in Week 3 and I haven’t decided if I will wear my Brian Urlacher jersey and Rams hat or Steven Jackson jersey and Bears hat. Tough decision right there.
– “Kneeldown-gate” is so blown out of proportion at this point (Watch the Highlights here). I mean I see the perspective of not wanting to injury players but this is football. This is the National Football League. The criticism of the NFL is that they are too soft and you are just feeding that criticism. It’s football and you play hard until the final whistle. End of story.
– Peyton Manning looked like an old man throwing the football on Monday. 3 Ints in your first 3 drives isn’t acceptable even if you are the worst quarterback in college. Now he did finish with 241 yards passing but his performance left a lot to be desired.
– Can we please get these replacement refs out of here? They are so bad it’s not even funny. But the NFL doesn’t want to deal with the union for the referees and my guess is that they will focus on improving the replacement refs instead of getting a deal done which is sad.
Major League Baseball thoughts
– The Nationals got swept by the Braves this weekend. Yeah shutting down Strasburg didn’t affect the Nationals. If you believe that, I have beachfront property to sell you in Nebraska.
– The Cardinals split the series with the Dodgers. Which is better than losing the series 3-1 and being a game down in the Wild Card race. They maintained their 1 game lead they had going into the series with 4 less games to play. I will take that. I still think the Cardinals get that second wild card spot and here is to hoping the Braves pass the Nationals and take the NL East.
National Hockey League thoughts
– After locking out the players for a whole season in 2004-2005, the owners are looking to do it again. Both sides are far apart and you would think after that debacle and having all the Stanley Cup Finals games on Versus for one year (before it turned into the NBC Sports network and had creditability) , they decide “Hey let’s do it again.” The NHL is at an all time high and the money is very good and they just want to throw it all away. Shame on both sides for not getting a deal done and if they are as far apart as it seems, we might not have the Maple Leafs – Redwings at the Big House this season. And that is a shame.
