In this week’s Turn Up The Heat! We will cover the week that was in the NFL, Major League Baseball and College Football.
College Football thoughts
– The Big 10 is bad, and nothing signaled that more than the Iowa-Central Michigan game. Iowa is just a mess right now. Add in that Kirk Ferentz’s contract will guarantee him at least $3.9 million dollars every year until January 2020 and Hawkeye fans just have to feel like they are destined to be mediocre as long as Ferentz is coach. Ferentz has led Iowa to some great success but the last 3 seasons have been terrible. Ferentz is handcuffing the University of Iowa and he needs to be a man and resign and take a $10 million dollar buyout and give the Hawkeyes a chance to compete.
– Is anyone going to challenge Alabama? Seriously. LSU is vulnerable and Oregon while explosive on offense, hasn’t shown the ability that it can do it against an SEC team. USC can still get themselves back into the hunt for a national title and maybe they can compete with Alabama. The Seminoles looked good against a team that gave up 70 to West Virginia. At this point, I don’t see a team that can beat the Crimson Tide.
National Football League Thoughts
– I will be honest, I found more interest in the Cardinals-Astros game when it was 6-1 Cards than I did in the Monday Night Football game. It was boring for the most part. But that last play made up for all the boringness during the game. Now, it’s clear it was a pick and now the Packers, a legendary NFL team with a huge fanbase, lost a game it shouldn’t have. If this doesn’t change the negotiations, nothing will. And the NFL Statement on this issue pretty much made my point, the NFL isn’t budging on the Refs.
– Let’s give Golden Tate credit for not giving up on the play and fighting for the ball. That is what is lost in all of this craziness is that Golden Tate saw that he had a chance to take the ball and fought for the victory. Good for him.
– I have debated whether or not to get NFL Redzone. I don’t have DirecTV so Sunday Ticket isn’t an option, but after watching the Cowboys-Buccaneers game and missing some good action, I might have to get that NFL redzone channel.
– Speaking of the Cowboys, they’re 2-1 and really they aren’t that bad. Seattle is much improved even though they shouldn’t have lost so badly to the Seahawks. But the Bucs aren’t suppose to be that good and the Cowboys could barely move the ball against them.
– The Bears and Cowboys play each other the next week on Monday Night Football. Wow it’s now two weeks in a row that I will have to watch the game neutrally. I think the Bears will win, but my fiance loves the Cowboys so I will have to pull for the Bears in this game.
– The Rams are still rebuilding and they bring in the Seahawks to the Edward Jones dome this Sunday. I think the Seahawks are beatable especially at home. The Rams certainly go 2-2 and beat the Seattle Seahawks.
Major League Baseball thoughts
– It’s getting more exciting now, the Cardinals are in control of the 2nd wild card. They have to sweep the Astros because they get the Nationals and Reds at home to end the season. Both teams are in the playoffs and might be resting some players than playing their very best. The Cardinals I believe are in, but they still have to win the games ahead of them.
– Can the Texas Rangers have a harder schedule to end the season? 6 games against Oakland and 3 against the Los Angeles Angels. The playoffs begin right now for the Rangers.
– Watching the final Cardinals-Astros series for a long time and how bittersweet it is. Remembering all the great games against the Astros in the mid 2000s that were so great. The announcers on the Cardinals broadcast said that it was like watching a Triple A team and I can’t disagree with that notion. I will take it as a Cardinals fan but this Astros team is sad to watch when I remember so many great Astros teams.
