Pregame
– A move that shocked no one, JW Walsh was named the starter for Oklahoma State. He obviously isn’t as good as Wes Lunt because Wes Lunt was named the starter after spring practice was over. So while he put up impressive numbers against the Ragin’ Cajuns, they aren’t the Texas Longhorns. I expect the Cowboys to come out with short passes to the outside and option runs and they want to move fast so they want to get Texas tired. The key will be is to be patience. Oklahoma State was getting points early on in the game against Arizona, but they ended up making mistakes and Arizona capitalized. I would be telling the Longhorns the same thing. Keep everything in front of you and capitalize on their mistakes.
– I am still sticking to my 41-31 prediction.
– Texas won the toss and deferred.
Kickoff
– The kickoff is deep and the Cowboys take a touchback and come out to the 25. The first play was a quick pass to the outside for a gain of 6. The next play was a big run by Joseph Randle and again and Kenny Vaccaro and Adrian Phillips both missed tackles. Unbelievable. PAT good
69 yard TD run by Joseph Randle. PAT Good. Oklahoma State leads 7-0
Texas isn’t good at tackling and this is getting ridiculous.
The Kickoff is taken at the 5 and he is down at the 25 yard line.
– The first play for the Longhorns is a toss to the outside and gets 3 yards. The second play is a run up the middle for about 3 yards. Then on 3rd down, Ash completes an out route for 4 yards. The a reverse to Goodwin for 3 yards so that is good. Then they run it with Bergeron for no gain. Then before the 3rd down play, Texas calls timeout. After the timeout, Texas runs a tunnel screen to Goodwin and it’s good for the first down. Then another tunnel screen but Goodwin is dropped for 4 yards. The next play is an incomplete pass to Bergeron. We will see what the play call is. It’s a screen to Hills and a 14 yard gain. Wow great play. Jeremy Hills is a great story. the next play is a playaction pass to Shipley deep for a TOUCHDOWN!!! Wow. 44 yard pass.
44 yard pass from David Ash to Jordan Shipley. (PAT Good) Game is tied at 7.
The kickoff is taken in the at the 1 and he is dropped at the 17 yard line. Need a stop here Longhorns.
– The first play for the Cowboys is is a swing pass but only goes for 3 yards. The next play is INTERCEPTED BY KENNY VACCARO!!! In Ok State territory.
The first play for the Longhorns is a run for Bergeron for about a yard. The second play is a wildhorn and Gray handsoff to Shipley who gets a couple of yards. The next play is a Strike to Shipley for a TOUCHDOWN. 2o yard Touchdown pass. The Offensive line blocked very well. PAT Good.
20 yard pass from David Ash to Jordan Shipley. PAT Good. Texas up 14-7
The kickoff is deep and Justin Gilbert takes a knee in the endzone.
The first play for the Cowboys is a run by Joseph Randle for an 8 yard gain, then they give it to Randle again and got 6 and a first down. Then the Cowboys swing it out to Randle but get only 2. Then a quick sweep by Jeremy Smith and he is stopped in the backfield. 3rd and 10 and a false start by Oklahoma State. 3rd and 15. They handoff to Smith for a 2 yard gain. Punting time for the Cowboys but a bobbled snap but he gets that away.
Texas starts at the 36 yard line. A run by Malcolm Brown for a 1 yard gain. the next play is a draw to Bergeron for 3 yards. 3rd and 6. It looks like a screen and only got a yard. Alex King in to punt. A false start by Texas backs it up 5 yards. And then another false start. Come on Longhorns. Ridiculous. A bad snap and bad punt. But it’s in Oklahoma State territory.
First play for Oklahoma State, Walsh gets flushed out and throws it out but goes nowhere. Then an 18 yard gain then a big pass an another missed tackle and a touchdown. How can you not wrap him up. Looks like Adrian Phillips got really hurt but he gets up. PAT Good
44 yard pass from JW Walsh. PAT Good. We are tied again at 14.
I can’t understand why the Longhorns can’t wrap up. 2 touchdowns in less than a minute.
Kickoff is deep but DJ Monroe takes it out and makes players miss and is GONE. Touchdown Texas
100 yard return by DJ Monroe (PAT Good). Texas up 21-14
We are still in the first quarter folks. Long night for me.
Kickoff is at the goal line and Gilbert takes it 43 yards. Randle takes the ball and gets an 11 yard gain. Byndum wraps up, thank god. Walsh then throws the ball and gets 9 yards. Then a run by Randle but goes nowhere. Then on 3rd down, Randle runs up for 5 yards, at least the Longhorns are wrapping up. Then a shovel pass to the Josh Stewart and gets 8 yards and the end of the 1st Quarter.
1st quarter thoughts: Defense needs to tackle better, Offense needs to keep doing what they are doing. Still think the Longhorns win this one.
First play in the Second quarter is a 3 yard run by Oklahoma State. Then a design run by Walsh for a 6 yard gain. The next play is a run by Randle and they get a 7 yard gain. Then a 3 yard gain by Randle. 2nd and Goal and a Longhorn down. Desmond Jackson is down but he walks off the field. The next play is an option to Randle and Kendall Thompson and stopped for 1 yard loss. Then a Longhorns timeout on 3rd and goal. Good call. The next play out of the timeout is a false start by the Cowboys. I wish I could decline that. 3rd and goal. Walsh throws an out route but Vaccaro is right on it. Stopped 7 yards short. The Field Goal is good.
24 yard field goal is good. Texas leads 21-17
Although the Longhorns gave up some yards, they held them out of the endzone. If you can do that and get touchdowns, you win the game.
The kickoff this time just goes out of the endzone.
The first play is a zone read to DJ Monroe for 7 yards. Then a give to Bergeron for 4 yards for a first down. Then a run to the Outside by Bergeron and he did very good to break tackles to get a yard. The next play is a pass to Roberson for 7 yards. Then the wildhorn formation, Gray takes the ball for 2 yards for a first down. Then a toss to the outside with Gray and gets 2 yards. Then a deep pass to Mike Davis and incomplete pass but a pass interference. 15 yards and a first down. Then a run by Marquis Goodwin for a 16 yard gain, but a cutting the defender sends it back 15 yards. the first play then is a check down to Bergeron, fumbles it but gets it back. 7 yard gain. 2nd down is a deep pass to Mike Davis and it is on the money but he can’t come up with the ball. 3rd and 12. This is 2 down territory. But Ash is sacked so the punting unit will come in. That’s not good. The punt is muffed and the Cowboys recover.
The first play for the Cowboys is a pass to Randle for 8 yards. Then another give to Randle but gets nowhere. 3rd down is a big run by Randle. The same play they scored on before, quit moving with the Receiver. Now a sack by Walsh for a 5 yard loss. Then a run by Smith for another 5 yard loss. 3rd and 20. Get a stop NOW!!! Walsh dumps it off to a screen but is dropped. Lucky play there for the Longhorns. Punt is deep and is taken by Diggs at the 9 yard line.
First play for the Longhorns, Ash is flushed out and gets rid of it. Then a 5 yard gain by Gray for a 3rd and 5. On 3rd down, Ash passes it to Daje Johnson for a 16 yard gain. 1st down is a quick pass to Shipley for a 6 yard gain. Then Ash is flushed out but throws it away. 3rd and 4. Ash throws it to Goodwin but is thrown behind and only get 3. Then a good punt and Ok State will take it at the 19.
Randle on the first play get 3 yards, then 2 yards by JW Walsh. on 3rd down Walsh checks it down to Randle for 9 yards. Then a Walsh pass for 11 yards. Then an option play by Oklahoma State and goes for 6 yards. Desmond Roland runs for 17 yards. Then Walsh goes deep and it falls incomplete. Then Oklahoma State runs to the left and is stuffed for a 2 yard loss. 3rd and 12. Then Walsh runs the ball and gets a 3 yard loss. Oklahoma State is going for it. Instead the Oklahoma State Cowboys call timeout.
Nick Sharp is coming in to attempt a 53 yard field goal and it is no good.
Ash gets out the pocket but only get a 1 yard gain and it looks like the Longhorns will take it to the locker room.
Halftime: Texas 21 Oklahoma State 17
Halftime thoughts: The first quarter was great for the offense and bad for the defense. Then the defenses for both teams then stepped up. Defense is improving as the game goes along but the defense needs to step up big. The miss tackles aren’t there anymore and now you see that Oklahoma State can’t score. Need to keep that up and take care of business.
3rd Quarter
Kickoff is again kicked out of the endzone.
First play is a run by Monroe that gets a loss of 1 yard. The next play is a pass in the flat to Roberson for a 5 yard gain. 3rd and 5. Ash throws to Goodwin complete for a 15 yard gain. Great blocking by Texas. Then a playaction pass and Goodwin is interfered with. 15 yard penalty and automatic 1st down. 1st down play Ash throws it away but it is grounding. 2nd and 21. Daje Johnson gets the shovel pass and breaks a few tackles and gets 17 yards. Then a wildhorn play but Shipley has no play. 4th down and going for it. Ash dumps it off to Goodwin for a 7 yard gain. 1st down run goes for 2. Nothing in the running game but need to keep doing it. Then a reverse on 2nd down to Goodwin for no gain. 3rd down is a false start by Donald Hawkins. Need discipline. 3rd and 12. And Ash is picked off. That was tough but Ash didn’t see the linebacker there. Should of thrown it over the top. Oh well move on.
The first play is a run with Randle for a loss of 1. Then a false start by Oklahoma State. On 2nd down Walsh throws it up and almost complete. Good play by Diggs. 3rd down. Tracy Moore makes an unbelievable catch. 1st down. Walsh fakes the run and a quick slant to Moore for 16 yards. The 1st down run is stopped for a 4 yard loss. Then a big play by Moore. Then another run by Randle. It’s hard to keep up but stopping Moore is important. Then Charlie Moore makes a catch, but wait that wasn’t a catch. Gets reviewed and overturned. 3rd and 8. Walsh’s pass was almost picked off. Have to pick it off.
OSU field goal is good. Texas still up 21-20.
Boy this is becoming a nail-biter.
Kickoff could have been taken out but Monroe wisely takes a knee.
Texas needs points here. Any points really. Touchdown is preferred obviously but no more mistakes, time to win the game.
1st down run goes for about 2. It’s not there in the middle. 2nd down is a screen and it gets 4 yards. 3rd and 5. And a timeout taken by Texas. Then after the timeout, Ash gets it to Shipley for the first down. Then Ash does a playaction pass and gets it to Davis for an 8 yard gain. Then a swing pass to Roberson for another first down. Then a Big play to Bergeron on the pass for a first down. Then a first down run to the outside (thank god) and gets 5. Then another run by Bergeron and gets 3 yards. 3rd and 2. Gives the ball to Gray and gets nowhere. They go for it on 4th down and gets monroe for 11 yards. Then another run by Monroe and he gets 7. Then the Wildhorn and Gray gets 6 yards. 1st and goal. Then a fade to Shipley and it is CAUGHT FOR A TOUCHDOWN.
8 yard pass from David Ash to Jordan Shipley (PAT Good) Texas leads 28-20.
That was the exact drive the Longhorns needed.
Poor Kickoff. Bad one right there. Then a screen pass that goes for 30 yards, missed tackles. Then a big touchdown play but hold on its called incomplete but correctly overturned. That is the scary thing about this Ok State offense. Going for two.But no good.
20 yard pass from JW Walsh to Stewart (2pt conversion no good)
Kickoff is low but goes into the endzone.
1st play for Texas is a pass to Mike Davis for 5 yards. And it goes to the end of the 3rd quarter.
3rd Quarter thoughts: No more short kickoffs. The defense is bending but not breaking when given a lot of yards. Trust the defense.
And the Longhorns draw the Cowboys offsides and a first down. First down play is a draw for Gray for an 8 yard gain. 2nd and 2 and Bergeron gets 1. 3rd and 1 and Bergeron gets 3 yards. 1st down and its a shovel pass to Daje Johnson and slips the tackle and get 9 yards. But the next play to Goodwin gets stopped in the backfield for a loss of 5. Just go forward. 3rd and 6. Ash overthrows DJ Grant. Alex King punts and it is fair catched at the 10.
Defense needs a stop here.
First play for Ok State, Walsh makes a huge run with a blocker. What a great call. In Texas territory. Next play is an incomplete pass. 2nd and 10. Walsh runs for an 8 yard gain. 3rd and 3. Randle takes it for a 6 yard gain. First down play is a completed pass for 4 yards. Byndum is down. But gets up. 2nd down play is a loss of 1 yard. 3rd and 6. They give it to Randle and gets to the 2 and then they punch it in. . PAT is good.
2 yard run by Joseph Randle. (PAT good). Ok state leads 33-28.
Well, I think the Longhorns need to play keep away as long as possible.
Kickoff is downed in the endzone. First play is a check down to Roberson for 4 yards. Then Jonathan Gray breaks one for 14 yards. Then Daje Johnson makes me have a heart attack and gets 6. Then Bergeron reverses his field and gets 16 yards. Then Gray gets 8 yards. Then another run by Gray to get 5 yards and the first down. Then Gray gets another handoff for 3 yards. Then the Wildhorn and Jonathan Gray gets 13 yards. 1st and Goal. Then a Joe Bergeron 3 yard run for a TOUCHDOWN. Going for 2. But falls incomplete.
Joe Bergeron 3 yard run (2pt conversion no good). Texas leads 34-33
Bad kickoff again. Stop doing that Mack. They are going to review if someone touched it. Well it looked like he touched it but they let it stand. 1st play is a pass over the middle for a 26 yard gain. I think you let them score here. Maybe. I don’t know. Next play is a run by Randle for 15 yards. Then Randle just runs over Turner and gets 11. Then a play to Roland that gets 2. Next play is another run for 2 by Roland. 3rd and 6. Bleeding some clock here and they call timeout. They like the quick slant so I would say press them here. 3rd and 6. And they hand it off to Randle for 2 yards. 4th and 4 and they are kicking and it is good.
24 yard field goal is good. Ok State leads 36-34
2:44 to go. Plenty of time. Endzone. Kickoff is out of the endzone.
Ash passes to Bergeron incomplete. 2nd down. Ash has to scramble and gets only a yard. Then Ash dumps it off to Hills for 4. 4th down and David ash completes it to DJ Grant for 29 yards. HUGE. then a 5 yard pass and then a HUGE Play by Mike Davis Then Bergeron runs for 2 yards. Now 2nd and Goal and they GET IN THE ENDZONE. Touchdown Texas!! The play stands!! PAT good
Touchdown Texas!!! Bergeron 2 yard run Texas leads 41-36
Kickoff goes through the endzone. Stop right now Texas.
1st play is an incomplete pass. 24 seconds left. 2nd down and Jackson Jeffcoat gets the big play and they fumble it. Ok State recovers. Ok State calls timeout. Next pass is for 8 yards and they go out of bounds. 11 seconds to go. Then they play Cal Stanford and it doesn’t work.
TEXAS WINS 41-36
