Texas Longhorns Thoughts

– I don’t think Mack Brown gets it, and I really don’t think anyone is willing to tell him the truth. Every great coach has a downfall. I get the pride issue with wanting to get the program back to elite status but I haven’t seen one legendary coach bring their program back to elite> Bobby Bowden did it, and while Joe Paterno did get Penn State back to a BCS bowl, he destroyed Penn State to where it will take years to get back to true elite status. Mack, you have done enough, don’t let your pride destroy this great program.

NFL Thoughts

– Two questionable time management calls by both the Rams and Cowboys. I mean I get trusting Legatron but a 66 yard field goal? Not shocked he had enough leg on the kick but you still have to aim the kick. Bradford taking a sack was the worst thing he could do. Should of at least thrown the ball away. The Cowboys did a great job recovering the onside kick but kept wasting time. Dez Bryant needed to shut up and get lined up. If you have to kick a 51 yard field goal to win a game, that is a very hard thing to do. Coaches really don’t spend a lot of time with clock management in their game prep but the players should know better.

– I wouldn’t be too discouraged Texans fans about the big loss to the Packers. It was a must win for the Packers and they got it. But now that the Texans got that loss, they can improve on some things to make a run in the playoffs.

– In a shock to no one who watches the Chargers, they find a way to blow a 24 point halftime lead and lose by 11. I really don’t know how Norv Turner has stayed with the Chargers for as long as he has but that could be a season defining loss for the Chargers.

Major League Baseball thoughts

– The Cardinals just won’t die. Being born and raised in the Gateway city, you feel a sense of pride with the Cardinals. But I get the sense from all my good friends that the Cardinals are starting to get on some people’s nerves. I honestly can’t tell you how they do it. Beating the Nationals with 4 runs in the 9th inning after trailing 6-0 early on in the game? I would be lying if I didn’t start thinking about the 2013 season at that point. Now the Cardinals have a 2-1 lead with 2 more games at home. The Cardinals might have lost Carlos Beltran but Matt Carpenter is filling in nicely. Plus I am a believer that Lance Berkman will be back IF the Cardinals go to the World Series. I mean if the Cardinals repeat (knock on wood), this team’s journey and ability to accomplish that feat with everything stacked against them is nothing short of miraculous.

– The Yankees are one game away from another early exit from the playoffs. Yes, when you play for the Yankees, the goal is getting to the World Series. Anything less is unacceptable. Alex Rodriguez shouldn’t be complaining about lack of playing time. He isn’t producing and the Yankees need to win. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Yankees went for Josh Hamilton at all even though they are set in the outfield (Nick Swisher probably will resign but I know the Cardinals will be looking for a right fielder).
