In this week’s Turn Up The Heat! We wrap up the Baylor game and preview the Kansas game, talk about the World Series and finally start to talk about the NBA.

Texas Longhorns Thoughts

– Watching the Texas Tech-TCU football game and I see the two defenses just overpowering the runners on the other team and both defenses never get pushed back.  I don’t see that with the Texas Longhorns defense and I don’t know if that is conditioning or they aren’t getting their hands properly in position on the offense lineman but they are just getting blown up on blocks.  I think that the Texas Longhorns need to seriously consider what their strength and conditioning program is doing preparing the linebackers and defense lineman for these battles.

– Looking ahead to the Kansas game, this should be a blowout. There is really no one on this Kansas team that should scare the Longhorns, but that’s why this game can be scary. The Kansas Jayhawks have been close this year to winning a Big 12 game. They almost beat TCU and Oklahoma State. The common denominator in both those games were that they were played in Lawrence, Kansas. The Longhorns better not be looking ahead to the matchup next week against the Texas Tech Red Raiders or they may be heading back to Austin with an upset loss.

National Football League Thoughts

– The Texans sent the message to the NFL on Sunday with the thumping of the Baltimore Ravens.  That this team is going to make some noise in January 2013. what a performance by the Texans to bounce back after an embarrassing loss to the Packers.

– Don’t look, but the Chicago Bears are 5-1 and are in first place in the NFC North.  They do have to face the Packers at home later on this season, but things set up very nicely for the Chicago Bears.

– The Cowboys won at the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday, but the Cowboys didn’t look pretty doing it. A win is a win so I won’t complain about how they get one but the Carolina Panthers are not a good team this year.  If the Cowboys want to compete for a playoff spot, which is looking to be likely a wild-card spot instead of winning the NFC East, all they have to do is win the games on their schedule. This Cowboys team is not a Super Bowl team so don’t get your hopes up.

Major League Baseball Thoughts

–  Although I am disappointed on how the season ended for the St. Louis Cardinals, I am very excited for the future of the Cardinals.  Going into the 2012 season, the Cardinals lost Tony LaRussa, Albert Pujols, and Dave Duncan.  They had a rookie manager in Mike Matheny has never been a manager at any level in baseball.  They also loss Chris Carpenter for most of the season, Rafael Furcal in August, and Lance Berkman to knee injuries that made him ineffective for the entire season.  What did the Cardinals end up doing?  The Cardinals won 88 games, 2 wins less than the 2011 season, and were one win away from the World Series. That is impressive.

–  The Giants-Tigers World Series might not draw in a lot of ratings, but this will be a 7 game series and I am picking the Tigers to win in seven.

National Basketball Association thoughts.

– My Top 5 is the 1) Miami Heat. 2) Oklahoma City Thunder 3) Los Angeles Lakers 4) Boston Celtics 5) Los Angeles Clippers.

– I want to see how Avery Bradley, former Texas Longhorn, will do as the main man in Boston. He has some big shoes to fill with the departure of Ray Allen, but he can make a big statement in terms of his potential as an NBA superstar with a huge season.
