In this week’s Hook’em Headlines Big 12 Rankings, who claims the number 2 spot in the Big 12 rankings with Oklahoma and Texas Tech losing? Does Texas drop after a win against the Kansas Jayhawks? Find out now in Hook’em Headlines Big 12 Rankings for week 9.

Big 12 Rankings

1. Kansas State (Last Week: 1)

It’s clear that the Kansas State Wildcats are the best team in the Big 12. After another beatdown, this time to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Wildcats are thinking about going to a national championship. They still had to face Oklahoma State and Texas, but I think that they will at least get a BCS bowl bid from the season.

2. Oklahoma (Last Week: 2)

Oklahoma lost to a very good Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team this past Saturday. The sooners do have two losses on the season and are not going to be going to the national championship. They also have an outside shot at winning at least a share of the Big 12 title. So in 3 of the past 4 seasons, Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners have only won 1 Big 12 title. This is the same amount that Texas has won in the past four years as well. I’m not saying these programs are on equal footing program wise, they aren’t. The fact is Oklahoma has underachieved as well just not to the extent Texas has. The Big 12 is better when the title comes down to Oklahoma and Texas.

3. West Virginia (Last Week: 6)

Look for the Mountaineers to bounce back this week against TCU. They are still a very good team that will benefit from being out of the spotlight.

4. Texas Tech (Last Week: 3)

Texas Tech was humbled this past Saturday against the Kansas State Wildcats. That doesn’t mean they aren’t a good team. They still have a very good offense but when the wind isn’t swirling in Lubbock they have a hard time stopping high-powered offenses. The weather will play a huge impact in this week’s game with the Texas Longhorns.

5. Oklahoma State (Last Week: 7)

Oklahoma State only has one conference loss and that was to Texas. Oklahoma State fans are still upset about what happened during the game, but the team has not let that get in their way of trying to compete for a conference title. The schedule is getting tougher with games against Kansas State, West Virginia, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma still to play.

6. Texas (Last Week: 5)

You don’t struggle to beat a 1-7 Kansas team and move up in the Big 12 rankings. Texas has to be cautious that the season doesn’t end in a tailspin because if this season ends at 6-6, Texas will have to make a change and it won’t be what Mack Brown wants to hear.

7. TCU (Last Week: 4)

Winning a Big 12 road game is not easy, but they could have performed better in Stillwater.

8. Iowa State (Last Week: 8)

Good win for the Cyclones in Ames on Saturday. Now the Texas win against Baylor looks worse than it did the previous week.

9. Baylor (Last Week: 9)

Well Baylor is back to being at the bottom of the Big 12 and that bottom will be determined this weekend when the Kansas Jayhawks go to Waco, Texas to play the Baylor Bears.

10. Kansas (Last Week: 10)

I thought for a second of putting Kansas at number 9 but I decided not to because after watching the game film, the Jayhawks made a lot of mistakes that the Longhorns could not capitalize on. The future is very bright Jayhawks fans, but this program is still a few years away.
