Quarterback

After running through transfers Jay Heaps and Dayne Crist, Weiss pins his hopes on sophomore Montell Cozart. Cozart saw action last season, and the results were predictable. While he had his moments were you could see his athleticism, he wasn’t ready to be on the big stage. The college game moved too fast for him. Weiss is banking on the experience helping Cozart settle down in 2014 and use his talents in a more effective manner.

As a dual-threat quarterback, Cozart relied more on his running abilities than passing, as most young running signal callers do. Another year in the program should help Cozart develop more confidence in the pocket, thus forcing defenses to play more conservative rather than just pin their ears back and rush the passer.

Texas has the athletes to corral Cozart. At this point in his career, he is more of threat to run than burn Texas through the air.
