Secondary
The secondary has the most experience returning. Isaiah Johnson and Cassius Sendish are ball-hawking safeties. Johnson was a top performer for the Jayhawks, leading the secondary in tackles and interceptions. JaCorey Shepard and Dexter McDonald provide senior leadership at the corner position. This group has seen plenty of spread-happy defenses in their time on campus. It’s the players behind these guys that has Kansas fans worried.
There is very little experience on the bench. Even still, this group should give Texas the most concern because of its experience. Then again, Case McCoy was 20-29 for 196 yards against this secondary last year.
Kansas is a team caught in a nightmare it can’t seem to wake from. There is hope with the likes of Cozart, Pierson, Heeney and Simmons. Ultimately, too many question marks on both sides of the ball make Kansas a few years away from competing with the big boys in the conference.
