Though Marshall and Smart appear to be at the top of the list, another name garnering some attention is Chris Mack, head coach at Xavier.

Like Smart, Mack doesn’t have nearly as much experience as Marshall, but he’s been able to take the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament in an impressive five out of six seasons as the head coach. Of those five appearances, three have resulted in trips to the Sweet Sixteen.

He holds a 134-71 (.654) coaching record.

Mack would probably be the biggest gamble on the list so far, but some of the best coaches are often not a school’s top choice or safest pick.
