Naashon Hughes

Hughes’ name hasn’t been called much this season. The whole defensive line has been disappointing actually, and the defense has suffered as a result.

It was a different story on Saturday.

Hughes had nine tackles as the defense held Oklahoma to 67 yards rushing. He teamed with Poona Ford to record the biggest sack of the game. Late in the fourth quarter Oklahoma was faced with a 3rd and 14 when Baker Mayfield dropped back to pass. Hughes beat his man has forced Mayfield to scramble. Never giving up in his pursuit of the elusive Sooners quarterback Hughes corralled Mayfield and held him up long enough for Ford to come in to help complete the sack.

This was a big play in the game because it forced Oklahoma to have to punt. Texas was able to run out the clock to preserve the victory.
