Texas Football: 5 Biggest Games for Longhorns in 2016
By Tyler Brett
Texas’ 24-0 loss at the hands of Iowa State in Ames was the low point of the 2015 season. The first step to proving that this team is back is taking some revenge on the Cyclones October 15 in Austin.
Last season’s debacle highlighted everything that was wrong with Texas last year. They were undisciplined, inconsistent, and often times lackadaisical. That loss undercut any momentum that Texas had built after winning back-to-back games and really left a sour taste in the mouth of Horns’ fans everywhere.
Iowa State’s domination of Texas was utterly complete last season. The Horns were outgained 426-204 in the game and they managed just 119 yards in the first three quarters of play. No Texas drive made it past the Iowa State 47-yard line until the final desperation drive that ended in an incompletion in the endzone as time expired. Afterwards, Strong laid the blame across the entire team saying that “there were breakdowns at every position.”
For a team with the talent that Texas has, that kind of game should never happen. This season, you can bet that the Longhorns won’t be allowed to look past Iowa State. Every player that went through that loss last season will be laser focused on this one and looking for revenge.
If Texas is truly going to return as one of the Big 12’s elite, they can’t have a losing streak to Iowa State.
