In any season, Texas vs Oklahoma is always going to be the biggest game on the schedule.

The Red River Rivalry on October 8 caps off a tough opening stretch of the season for Texas. Oklahoma will be the heavy favorite to run away with the Big 12 this season and will be looking for statement wins to add to their College Football Playoff resume. This game will have serious implications on the conference title race and beyond.

Last year, the Horns came into this game at just 1-4 and looking lost. Meanwhile, the Sooners were rolling at 4-0 and ranked No. 10 in the nation. Despite all of that, however, Texas put together one of their most impressive and complete performances under Charlie Strong and bullied Oklahoma in a 24-17 victory. It was a signature win that showed what this team could do when it all came together.

These teams have traded off wins in this series since 2012 and OU will be looking to keep that trend going in 2016. If Texas can score another big win over the Sooners and create the beginnings of a streak, it will provide the Longhorns with some credibility as they look to ascend the Big 12 ladder once again.

Plus, who doesn’t love beating Oklahoma?
