Texas Football: 5 Biggest Games for Longhorns in 2016
By Tyler Brett
While these games ended up as the “biggest” of 2016, other games just missed the cut.
September 17, @ Cal Bears
Last season, Texas rallied from 21 points down only to miss an extra point late in the 4th quarter and lose 45-44. That heartbreaker in Austin will surely be on the minds of the Longhorns as they head west to Berkeley to take on the Golden Bears.
October 29, Baylor Bears
Part of returning to the upper echelon of the Big 12 is reasserting dominance over the state of Texas. The Longhorns put together an inspired defensive performance in the regular season finale last year to beat Baylor 23-17. Putting together back-to-back wins against the up-and-coming Bears will go a long way in re-establishing the natural order of things.
September 10, UTEP Miners
This is the only game in the first five weeks that Texas is going to be considered a heavy favorite. This “tune-up” game comes between Notre Dame and Cal, so they’ll have to fight the urge to overlook the Miners. But if Texas wants to prove that they are back in 2016, they can NOT lose their cupcake game.
