Texas Football: 10 Longhorns Who Will Turn Program Around in 2016
By Tyler Brett
6. D’Onta Foreman, RB
While Sterlin Gilbert is installing a flashy new offensive system, the break and butter for the Longhorns offense this season will be the running game. Leading the charge will be the big bruising junior, D’Onta Foreman.
Foreman led Texas with 681 rushing yards and five touchdowns on just 95 carries last season. His robust 7.17 yards per carry average were second in the Big 12 and he emerged as one of the more steady playmakers in an otherwise lackluster Longhorn offense. Combined with Chris Warren, Foreman helped Texas to the No. 3 rushing attack in the Big 12 in 2015.
Most impressively, the Smash Brothers did without being featured players in the offense to start the season. Both had to work their way into the rotation and earn their carries. Foreman took control of the position starting in the fifth game of the season, which was the first game he recorded more than 10 carries.
The 6-foot, 240-pound Foreman is a load to handle and punishes defenders who get in his way. With Gilbert stretching the field sideline to sideline this season, Foreman is going to see a lot more open lanes to run through. And when he breaks into the second level, opposing defensive backs better hope they get some help.
