Texas Football: 5 Takeaways from Notre Dame Win
By Tyler Brett
Believe the hype on Shane Buechele because this young man is the truth.
Buechele became the first true freshman to start for a season opener for Texas at quarterback since 1944 but you would not have known that watching him play. The young QB showed poise, accuracy, and toughness in leading this Texas offense. His ability to make all the throws and stretch the defense vertically opened things up in a major way for the Horns.
And he’s only going to get better. 12 months ago, this kid was starting his senior season in high school. Now, he’s leading one of college football’s most historic programs in a pressure-packed season where the team needs to win. His first test in that scenario: a top-10 team that beat this club by 35 points a year ago.
Despite all the pressure and the hype, Buechele simply stepped in and shined. His legacy at Texas is off to a rousing start after this game and his mystique will only grow as his ability grows. He is something special and exactly what Texas football has been waiting for.
