(1) Houston Cougars. There is so much juice to a potential Texas vs. Houston matchup. Tom Herman left Houston for Austin, it’s the Big City vs. the Big State, the Cougars are on the rise as a non-Power 5 powerhouse, there are recruiting implications, and it’s just a good old-fashioned Southwest Conference rivalry.

The two teams have not gotten together since the 2002 season when #2 Texas beat the Cougars 41-11 in Austin. In the previous season, the #5 Longhorns traveled to Houston’s campus for a controversial game where there were not enough seats at the Cougars’ former Robertson Stadium.

The 2001 game was a sore subject for both fanbases, then Texas and Houston finished their home-and-home series in 2002. They have not played since then, but it’s time to put these two programs back on the same field.

Whether it’s DKR in Austin or NRG Stadium or the Cougars’ new TDECU Stadium in Houston, it’s time to set aside hurt feelings and see these two Texas teams battle on the field again.
