(3) SMU Mustangs. Texas has interestingly not played SMU since the end of the Southwest Conference in 1995.

SMU is the only team that was left out of the Big 12 that Texas has not scheduled – the Horns often play Rice, they played Houston in the early 2000s, and TCU is now in the Big 12. That leaves SMU.

Of course, Texas plays every year in Dallas against Oklahoma, making a series against SMU not worthwhile in most years. But, now that SMU is playing better football under head coach Chad Morris, the potential matchup is more intriguing.

During their last meeting in 1995, Texas won 35-10 at the Cotton Bowl on their way to an undefeated and first place SWC record.

It’s time to see these teams play again now that SMU is relevant hanging just below Houston in the American Athletic Conference.
