Texas Basketball has major areas of improvement for next season in Shaka Smart’s third season.

Texas finished this year 11-22 overall and 4-14 in the Big 12 conference. Their only win away from Austin was in the first round of the Big 12 tournament when they upset Texas Tech.

But, the Horns  could not duplicate that against West Virginia when their season-long struggles came together in one ugly, frustrating game.

Before the season even ended, head coach Shaka Smart  acknowledged that a “lot of reflection” needs to happen in the off-season.

Texas also needs to finish strong in recruiting. The Horns already have ESPN Top 75 recruits Matt Coleman, Jericho Sims, and Royce Hamm joining the team next year. There is also a Top 5 recruit still on the board, Mo Bamba, who Coach Smart visited during Texas’ trip to West Virginia in February.

The Horns will also get the full services of big man Dylan Osetkowski, who sat out this season after transferring from Tulane. Coach Smart told the media during the season that Dylan should be Texas’ X Factor in 2017-2018.

The next big roster move will come from Jarrett Allen, who has to decide whether to leave early for the NBA or return to Austin after an up-and-down freshman season.

There are plenty of roster items to address for next season. But, on the court, there are so many areas that need to improve for Texas to return to the NCAA Tournament and compete for a Big 12 Title.
