(2) David Ash

David Ash is back. The former Texas QB returned to Austin on Tuesday looking for a shot at the NFL.

We know Ash’s story of being forced to quit football after the very first game for former head coach Charlie Strong. That was 2014. Now, three years later, Ash says he was actually trying to travel overseas to be a minister and had no interest in returning to football.

But, Ash told LHN host Lowell Galindo that he was blocked from the overseas ministry position and was called back to football.

“I feel like this is where God is leading me. Lots of prayer led this. I did not intend to come back, but I feel prepared for this,” Ash said.

The key was “getting fixed” healthwise. It’s unlikely that an NFL team will take a chance on him, though, with his history of concussions in the NFL. So, he also tried to show his punting skills to NFL scouts.

Ash’s arm was superb, though, and he looked in terrific shape at Texas Pro Day. He gave everyone in attendance another reminder of “what could have been” for Ash, Charlie Strong, and Texas Football if he were healthy during Strong’s tenure.

We’ll see if an NFL team takes a chance on him despite the red flags and concern over his durability.
