(4) Steve McMichael

Steve “Mongo” McMichael is essentially known for three things:

  • First-Team All-American at Texas in the late 1970s
  • Member of the ’86 Bears that won Super Bowl XX
  • WCW TV announcer and wrestler during the heyday of the Monday Night Wars

McMichael was born in Houston, went to high school in Freer, Texas, and was part of some great 1970s Texas Longhorns Football teams under Fred Akers that just missed winning a National Title.

McMichael was part of the dominant Chicago Bears defensive line before getting into wrestling announcing in the 1990s.

Mongo actually started with WWE (then WWF) exactly 22 years ago when he was ringside for Lawrence Taylor’s WrestleMania 11 main event match against Bam Bam Bigelow.

But, McMichael signed with WCW and started out as a wrestling commentator, tapping into his gift of gab. As a wrestler, McMichael won the WCW U.S. Title in 1997.

Tom Herman has brought in Mark Henry and The Undertaker to talk to the Horns squad. Perhaps McMichael should be next.
