The Final Round of The Masters went great for first-time winner Sergio Garcia, but not for Texas Golf legend Jordan Spieth.

Jordan Spieth entered Sunday’s final round of The Masters down just two strokes behind Sergio Garcia and co-leader Justin Rose. But, nothing really clicked for Spieth on Sunday.

Spieth shot three-over on Sunday to finish -1 for the tournament, tied for 15th place.

Trouble started on the very first shot of the day. On the first hole, Spieth’s drive landed in the bunker. He then missed a par putt and settled for a bogey.

Spieth erased the bogey with a birdie on the second hole, but that was his last birdie until the end of the round.

Jordan Spieth Never Seemed Comfortable

The Longhorn great spent so much energy battling back from a poor tournament start. After finishing +3 on Thursday, Spieth grinded on Friday to get back to Even. He followed with a great round on Saturday to finish -4 and climb within two strokes of the lead.

But, it was clear by the end of the front nine Sunday that Spieth was not going to get his redemption this year. Instead, that belonged to Sergio Garcia.

Spieth Front Nine:

  • Shot Two Over
  • Dropped from -4 to -2 for the tournament
  • Three bogeys and one birdie

In his post-match interview on CBS, Jordan Spieth said he recognized that hope was gone after the 12th hole. In a familiar scene from last year’s final round of The Masters, Spieth sent his tee shot in the water.

Spieth had avoided that fate in the first three rounds this year, but as his struggles built on Sunday, it was an inevitable result.

However, Spieth did not quadruple bogey. Instead, Spieth scored a double bogey, which felt like a small victory compared to the shot that ended his quest for back-to-back Masters Titles last year.

Spieth followed the double bogey with a bogey on the 14th hole to drop to +2 for the tournament. After battling to get into contention on Friday and Saturday, Spieth was not going to end his Masters run like that.

Jordan Spieth Finishes on Positive Note

With four holes to go, Jordan Spieth finally found his touch on Masters Sunday.

Spieth birdied the 15th hole for his first birdie of the round since the second hole.

He then birdied 16, parred 17, and finished the tournament with a very good birdie putt on 18 to finish at one under.

Spieth Back Nine:

  • Shot One Over
  • Dropped from -2 to -1 for the tournament
  • Two bogeys
  • One double bogey
  • Three birdies

Spieth said after the round that he found some positives at the end of the tournament to take with him the rest of the tournament. Sounding upbeat, Spieth said he plans to return to The Masters for the next 50 years.

It did not work out this year trying to win his second Masters tournament. He would have been the youngest ever to win two titles, something he was mere holes away from accomplishing last year.
