Stop #5: Pee Charts!

Our last stop on this wild ride to the Texas Spring Game involves urination. Call it what you want, but Texas has “Hydration Charts” a/k/a Pee Charts posted in the restrooms.

OrangeBloods.com reporter Anwar Richardson generated buzz when he tweeted a photo of the chart. The 1-8 scale ranges from “championship hydration levels” to what a really selfish teammate looks like.

The bottom line is Tom Herman wants every Texas Football player to be so focused on details that they remember to drink plenty of water so their pee comes out championship color. Please, excuse the visual.

Anwar then asked Tom Herman about the chart during Tuesday’s presser. After Herman joked back wanting to know how Anwar fared on the scale, Coach Herman explained the important purpose.

"“We actually have a urine test every practice today. To expand on the attention to detail that’s setting in, today was the first day that we had 100 percent. The entire football team was hydrated before practice today. “Science tells you that when you’re hydrated, muscles are pliable and stretchy. But, when it’s dry like beef jerky, you can tear it apart. So, you get more pulls, more muscle strains and all that when you’re dehydrated. And then the brain is 75-80 percent water as well. Studies have shown your concussion rate is higher, too, when you’re dehydrated. So, being hydrated around here is not something silly. It’s something we take very, very seriously. Because it’s a huge part of injury prevention.” – Tom Herman on Hydration"

This is what Longhorns fans are looking for in 2017: plenty of attention to detail to reach championship level football. We’ll see how the team looks Saturday afternoon in Austin.
