(3) Texas Spring Game Surprise: Chris Brown

“Who is Chris Brown?” many Texas Longhorns fans asked themselves watching the Texas Spring Game.

For starters, he’s a thumper and a ball hawk. In other words, just the kind of defensive player that Todd Orlando likes to use.

In the first half of the Texas Spring Game, Chris Brown laid out freshman RB Toneil Carter running on the left sideline. Carter braced himself at the last second, otherwise he may not have made it through the rest of the game.

Then, in the second half, Brown recorded the only INT of the Spring Game when he played a perfect Todd Orlando coverage to intercept a deep out pass thrown by Shane Buechele.

The impressive thing about Brown is he is a redshirt freshman. He is certainly taking advantage of the opportunity to wow defensive coaches with senior safety Jason Hall injured and the safety position wide open.

Chris Brown played with the second-string defense on Saturday, but was his effort worthy of moving up the depth chart? Brown is certainly worth keeping an eye on this summer.
