 (4) Texas Spring Game Surprise: Sam Ehlinger

Incoming freshman QB Sam Ehlinger had an okay debut for Texas Football. It was surprising not to see Sam dominate his part of the Spring Game with his superior skills coming out of high school.

But, Ehlinger was in a tough spot playing with the #2 offense against the #1 defense. And, since he was playing without a scholarship RB, the defense knew he was dropping back to throw the ball on nearly every play.

Ehlinger did have one of the best throws of the day when he connected with Lil’ Jordan Humphrey on a deep sideline TD. He also looked a lot better in the second half after struggling to find a rhythm in the first half.

We were expecting a little more from Ehlinger to at least continue the conversation about who should be the starting Texas QB. Right now, that is clearly Shane Buechele. But, Ehlinger will benefit from having a lot of items to learn from and improve on this summer.
