The Conclusion

There seems to be two options for Texas Sports: stay in the Big 12 or venture to the SEC.

The Pac-12 is the next best option, but geography makes it very difficult to justify leaving the Big 12. And, the Big 10 and ACC are intriguing in a Fantasy Sports kind of a way, but not realistic geographically.

Two options we have not discussed are the Longhorns starting their own conference – going back in time to the SWC Era – or going independent like Notre Dame.

Texas would presumably group in Texas schools, some old rivals, and poach a few other teams to form a conference. Or, if they went independent, they would link up with one major conference to have select “conference games,” like Notre Dame with the ACC.
