Texas Baseball beats Oklahoma in Game 1 of Big 12 tournament
Texas Baseball star Kacy Clemens let the rest of the Big 12 know what he thought about being snubbed from the All-Big 12 First Team.
Kacy Clemens hit two home runs and collected 10 total bases in Texas’ 8-4 win over Oklahoma on Day 1 of the Big 12 Baseball Tournament.
In the first inning, Clemens hit a two-run opposite field home run to left field. Texas tacked on another run in the first. Then, in his second at-bat in the third inning, Clemens destroyed a pitch to right field for another two-run home run.
Just like that, Texas was up 5-0 against Oklahoma in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night.
From there, Texas battled to prevent the Sooners from tying the game. OU crept within 5-3, then 6-4 late in the game. That brought in Longhorns ace Morgan Cooper to make sure Texas locked down the lead to win the critical first game of the tournament.
And, in the top of the ninth, OU gifted the Horns two runs via throwing error on a potential inning-ending double play.
By winning the first game of the tournament, Texas advanced to the winner’s bracket to face a surprising opponent on Thursday. [ Full Box Score ]

Texas Baseball to face … Kansas
It was a day of upsets on the first day of the Big 12 tournament:
- #8 seed Oklahoma State beat #1 seed Texas Tech
- #7 seed Kansas beat #2 seed TCU
- #6 seed Texas beat #3 seed Oklahoma
- #4 seed West Virginia run-ruled #5 seed Baylor
WVU was the only better seed to win on Wednesday. Now, some big names will be going home early on Thursday with two losses.
Day 2 of the Big 12 Baseball Tournament
- Elimination Game: Texas Tech vs. Baylor
- Elimination Game: TCU vs. Oklahoma
- Winner’s Bracket: WVU vs. OSU
- Winner’s Bracket: Texas vs. Kansas
Texas’ game against Kansas is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. It’s a similar situation as Wednesday where the Horns’ game is going on last. Meanwhile, OU has to turn around and play TCU at lunch time.
This after the Texas vs. Oklahoma game ended well past midnight in OKC. There were tons of walks, pitching changes, runners on base, meetings on the mound, and other elements as OU tried to find a way to stretch out the game to mount a comeback.
But, Kacy Clemens was just too much with his early assault on Sooners pitchers.
Kacy Clemens, Have a Party!
Kacy Clemens carried over the momentum from his last home game in Austin on Sunday. Just look at this statline the past two games:
Sunday vs. West Virginia
- 1-1 with Grand Slam Home Run, 4 RBI, 3 runs scored, 3 walks
Wednesday vs. Oklahoma
- 3-5 with two Home Runs, one double, two runs, 4 RBI, 10 total bases
That’s getting it done. Clemens has now joined the rare 10-10 club for Texas Baseball with 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases in the same season.
