Texas experienced its first attrition in the 2018 recruiting class when Ron Tatum out of Oklahoma and Justin Watkins out of Florida de-committed from the Longhorns.
But, the Longhorns have rebounded in a big way to reach the current No. 2 ranked recruiting class. There is still plenty of time to climb the chart.
4/26 Update: Texas jumped to the Top 15 of the recruiting rankings with the verbal commitment from Ron Tatum.
Texas has a huge recruiting weekend this summer in Austin, plus they are targeting out-of-state recruits with their satellite camps. Tom Herman already has three players from out of the state of Texas and he could be looking to add more in the months to follow.
5/7 Update: Texas Football jumped into the Top 10 of the 2018 college football recruiting rankings, according to 247Sports.com. This was due to Caden Sterns flipping from LSU to Texas to play for Tom Herman.
Texas is in the Top 10 with only eight recruits, similar to Washington, Clemson, and Florida State.
Meanwhile, Miami currently leads the 2018 recruiting rankings with their 17 commits for next year.
6/5 Update: Texas went on a run of elite recruits from Keaontay Ingram to B.J. Foster. The result was Texas grabbing the #4 spot, just behind Miami, Ohio State, and LSU in the 2018 college football rankings. Now, Texas is eying the Top 3 spots.
6/26 Update: After climbing into the Top 5, Texas has fallen back to No. 8 after losing two recruits and gaining one.
Ron Tatum and Justin Watkins de-committed from Texas, while the Longhorns grabbed elite WR Rondale Moore.
Oklahoma was nowhere near the Top 10 and is now No. 7 after taking the Longhorns’ elite recruit Ron Tatum. Tatum decided to flip to his home state team just one week after Bob Stoops retired. That completely changed the nature of the recruiting picture in the Big 12.
7/16 Update: Elite four-star WR Al’vonte Woodard committed to the Longhorns to build momentum during the important summer recruiting season.
This bumped up the Horns’ national recruiting ranking to No. 6, just behind LSU.
8/5 Update: Texas grabbed three more elite recruits to climb back into the Top 5 nationally.
High school players Jalen Green and Brennan Eagles plus JUCO transfer Dominick Wood-Anderson helped the Longhorns leapfrog LSU and Tennessee into the No. 4 spot.
Texas is just behind Penn State for the third spot. The Horns only have 15 recruits compared to 21 from the Nittany Lions, leaving plenty of room to jump PSU. Then, ahead of Penn State are Ohio State and Miami.
8/10 Update: Texas jumped to No. 2 in the recruiting rankings with the addition of Malcolm Epps, a four-star Tight End out of the Houston area. That is five Houston area high school recruits in the last few weeks for Tom Herman.
