2017 Texas Football Season Opportunities

Show the Country that Texas is Back

The biggest opportunity for Texas Football is to become nationally relevant again.

The Horns can prove that Texas is back with one simple step…

Beat USC in the 2006 BCS National Title Rematch

If the Horns walk into the L.A. Coliseum the third game of the season and beat USC in a rematch of the 2006 Rose Bowl National Title game, it will be a huge step forward for the Longhorns.

USC has big QB prospect Sam Darnold. But, the Longhorns have Shane Buechele.

USC has the homefield advantage. But, the Longhorns have history beating USC in SoCal.

The nationally televised, primetime game on Fox will be a testing ground for Tom Herman and his new team.

It’s an opportunity to prove that Texas is back after seven years of frustration.

Win the Battle of First-Year Coaches in the Cotton Bowl

Suddenly, the 2017 Cotton Bowl game between Texas and Oklahoma is historic.

For the first time since the 1940s, two first-year head coaches for the Longhorns and Sooners will match up in the Cotton Bowl.

Everyone will remember the first outcome between these rising stars in the coaching profession.

The opportunity is for Texas and Tom Herman to make a statement against an Oklahoma team that will likely be Top 5 in the preseason polls despite a new head coach in his 30s.

Win the Big 12 Conference

The Big 12 is bringing back the conference title game this year.

Texas won the first edition in 1996 when they upset No. 3 Nebraska.

How about winning the first edition of Volume 2?

The Longhorns have a big opportunity to make the Big 12 Title game, springboarding to…

Win a National Title

This is about dreaming big!

Why can’t the Longhorns make the College Football Playoffs and eventually the National Title game?

Former head coach Charlie Strong said himself that he believes this group of Longhorns will win a National Title.

Sure, this season seems too soon.

  • The recent history
  • Tom Herman’s first season
  • Something going wrong in key moments
  • Injuries, lack of depth, or lackluster road play

But, why can’t this year be different? The opportunity is there with a young group of Charlie Strong recruits becoming upperclassmen and a new coach bringing fresh energy to one of the top programs in the country.
